L'art est amusant...Vive la danse et la peinture!

Before the March break our class has been learning about dance elements.  We also enjoyed listening to a story about a dancing giraffe..well, one that found out he could dance if he just found the right music!

Art...Art...Art!

Welcome to 2013 grade 4's!

It's so nice to see the snow this winter and to be inspired to create winter art!

What did you like about drawing the cardinal?  What was tricky about this art piece.  Leave a comment to tell us your thoughts.

Art...Art...Art...

Our unit on Canada this term included a lesson about the famous Group of Seven artists who loved to sit and admire the beauty of the Canadian landscape.

Their art work often shows trees, water and mountains.
We are so blessed to live in this country!

After looking at various examples of their art work, our class began sketching a natural scene then working with pastels to blend colours and create textured pieces.

Halloween memories

As part of our Halloween week of festivities our grade 4 class used an artist's technique called "blending" to help us create textured jack-o-lanterns.

Aujourd'hui nous avons mélangé les couleurs de pastels pour créer de la texture dans nos projets d'art.

Leave a comment to let us know how you have used colour blending in other art projects.
How does it change the look of your art work?

Art and then technology...

After reading a few Barbara Reid books our class was excited to create our own stories and art in the same "plasticene style".   We found out this was not a fast or easy thing to do!

First we wrote the stories...

Next we created the art....

Finally we put our stories and art together using "Photostory".

Our efforts sure paid off though!

Check out these Photostories:

A busy week in grade 2...

It was an exciting week in grade 2 as we received our 2nd Flat friend.  Introducing "Flat Rasmus"!  Rasmus Klump to be precise, made the long trip from Denmark and is here to learn about Canada.  Our Danish friends also sent us some wonderful pictures they coloured for us, a giant flag, a DVD with Rasmus Klump cartoons and some Christmas crafts for next year!

Our class really enjoyed watching the Rasmus Klump cartoons, even though we don't understand Danish because we were able to think about the story through the pictures!  We were also surprised to hear that some Danish words sound similar to English words.

We also had some fun with winter art this week.  Now that we have finally had some snow we were inspired to create "winter fun" collages and we learned how to paint a sky like Van gogh!

What kind of lines do you see in our skies?

Learning about birds

This week we started reading about birds as part of our science unit.  Here are a few of the facts that we learned:

1.  Birds build nests in trees.

2.  Birds make nests to keep their eggs warm and safe.

3.  Birds make their nest out of mud and straw.

4.  There are many different kinds of birds.  We read about Bluebirds, Swallows, Canadian Geese, Cardinals, Robins, Eagles, Owls and many more.

5.  The Male Canada Goose makes a honking noise to protect the mother and her eggs.

We also enjoyed learning how to paint a few kinds of birds.

What kinds of birds do you see where you live?

Do you notice any interesting things that they do?
