We remember... Nous nous rappelons

This past week we celebrated Remembrance day.  
A day to be so thankful for the freedom we enjoy as Canadians.

To help students think about the idea of war and peace keeping, we read a couple of beautifully illustrated and powerful stories.  These books created so much discussion about why people go to war, how soldiers help and what people can do to stay hopeful for peace.

   

Afterwards we wrote letters to Canadian Soldiers with the hope of thanking them for their continued work to bring help to countries that are in war and for trying to keep our country safe.

All our letters were put together in this book and will be mailed overseas to the Middle East.

Fall in Ontario

As part of a Global Classroom Project our class shared what Fall is like here in Ontario.  We also learned about what Fall feels like and looks like in other countries of the world.  Something really interesting that we learned is that not all countries are experiencing the same season right now. For Countries that are south of the equator it is Spring!

Un village pionnier

Ohh la la...notre projet pionnier est finalement prête à partager!

Our class has worked very hard at building pioneer structures and completing a research project about each structure.  

We hope you enjoy learning about village life in the early settler days!

Pioneer day

To bring our Social Studies learning alive grade 3 students were given the chance to experience
 "A day in the life of an early settler". 

 It was a fantastic day  - one that will provide lasting memories!

Making book commercials for our Global Data Project

Our most recent look at DATA involved comparing the kinds of books kids enjoy reading around the world.  

After putting together a list of our own favourite books and learning about some media literacy techniques we created book commercials with the hopes of convincing our global friends to read the books we like to read.

Making Global Connections!

The first week of December was a busy one for grade 3 students at Monsignor Uyen!  

We began working on a DATA project called
 MAKING SENSE of the WORLD.

This project is helping us learn about children around the world through the collection and analysis of DATA.

We have learned that DATA means INFORMATION.
We are also learning how to COMPARE information about ourselves with the information of other countries.

Rurale ou Urbaine?

Students are learning about rural and urban communities.  

In order to test our knowledge we took a walk around our school yard to find clues that would help us figure out if our school is in a rural or urban community.

These are the clues we found:
