Narratives...story telling with online inspiration

Storybird is a creative tool that can inspire students to write!  The beautiful and often fanciful artwork promotes the expression of endless ideas.

Our class has recently produced a variety of stories - enjoy!

Now...of course with all writing, authors must look at their work and notice what could be added or changed to make improvements.  As you read these stories boys and girls, remember to notice what you could change and improve next time!

**Remember students...in order for your "Storybird" to be posted on our blog you need to "publish it" first. Before publishing, please edit spelling and punctuation.  Too many errors and your story will not be posted!

Making book commercials for our Global Data Project

Our most recent look at DATA involved comparing the kinds of books kids enjoy reading around the world.

After putting together a list of our own favourite books and learning about some media literacy techniques we created book commercials with the hopes of convincing our global friends to read the books we like to read.

By clicking on the following link you can check out our cool book commercials on the Global Data Wiki.

Fa la la la la...it's almost Christmas!

During the month of December our French reading lessons involved watching animated songs from a Christmas internet site.

Students learned to recognize "animation techniques":
  • colourful backgrounds that remind you of Christmas
  • images that match the ideas in the song
  • fonts that are nice to look at and not too hard to read
All of the "animation techniques" are used to catch the audience's attention.
So...
As a Media Literacy project students put together slideshows
of the French Christmas songs they learned.

As you watch them...see if you can spot their animation techniques!

Learning about ADVERTISING

With Christmas fast approaching we have been discussing how advertisers use "tricks" to get us to buy their
products.

Tricks like "convincing words", bolded words, colourful ads, a catchy title and pictures are all used to
get our attention.

Check out our 'Ads' and leave us a comment about how we did with our persuasive tactics.
